About Gilbert Hernandez

Gilbert was born in Colombia, South America in 1964.

Growing up in a family with strong moral values that emphasized honesty and personal accountability helped him succeed in life.

Since the very beginnings his strong moral values had play played an important role in his life to create a sense of respect and compassion for others.

 
After graduating from a catholic school and attended 4 years of mechanical engineering at a prestigious university in Colombia, he decided not to become another mechanical engineer but a dedicated automotive technician.

While attending university, he was also worked on his passion: cars. In the early 90’s he moved to the United States, after working for others he decided to acquire his own business: Barsom Automotive.

All these accomplishments would not be possible without the help of his beautiful wife, Maritza, who helped build up the business in the first years. Later when she became pregnant with their daughter Isabella, it became almost impossible for Maritza to stay at the facilities at all times. Today, Maritza stills remains very active in the business, handling all the paper work and accounting.

Gilbert is very active in the community and volunteers at several organizations such as: Whittier Host Lions Club, Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital, and Whittier Chamber of Commerce. He also contributes to the local churches; if some one is referred through the churches and services are provided at Barsom Automotive, at least 5% of the total invoice is donated back to the congregation.

One of the most successful parts of his business is based on the principle of educating customer; he helps them to understand their vehicles and its needs. Serving customers plays a very important role of the business.

 
Gilbert is an ASE Master Technician and L1 Specialist. He participates in continuous training to keep updated with the new technology; education plays a very important role in his carrier.
